Frequently Asked Questions about CIDB Login & CIMS

What is CIMS CIDB?

CIMS (Construction Industry Management System) is the CIDB's online portal at www.cidb.org.za where contractors manage their registrations, apply for grading upgrades, download certificates, and register completed projects. It replaced the old manual application process and is now the only way to interact with the CIDB.

How do I login to the CIDB portal?

To login to the CIDB: (1) Go to www.cidb.org.za, (2) Click "Online Services" or "CIMS Login", (3) Enter your registered email address and password, (4) Select your company from the dashboard. If you've forgotten your password, use the "Forgot Password" link to reset it via your registered email.

How do I register online with the CIDB?

To register online: (1) Go to www.cidb.org.za and click "Register", (2) Create a user account with your email, (3) Complete the company registration form with CIPC details (CoR 14.3), (4) Upload required documents (CIPC registration, TCS PIN from SARS, certified IDs not older than 3 months, CSD MAAA number), (5) Pay R450 registration fee per class of works, (6) Grade 1 registration is activated within 48 working hours. New registrations start at Grade 1.

How do I check my CIDB registration status online?

Login to the CIMS portal at www.cidb.org.za using your registered email and password. From the dashboard, select your company to view: registration status (Active/Expired/Suspended), current grading per category, certificate validity dates, and any pending applications. You can also download your CIDB certificate directly from the portal.

What do I do if my CIDB login is not working?

If your CIDB login is not working: (1) Clear your browser cache and cookies, (2) Try a different browser (Chrome recommended), (3) Use the "Forgot Password" function to reset your password, (4) Check if the CIDB website is under maintenance (they perform updates periodically), (5) Contact CIDB support at 012 482 7200 or info@cidb.org.za if the issue persists.

How do I download my CIDB certificate?

Login to the CIMS portal, select your company, and navigate to "Certificates" or "Registration Status". Click "Download Certificate" to get your current CIDB certificate in PDF format. The certificate shows your company name, registration number, grading per category, and validity dates. Keep this certificate updated โ€” expired CIDB registration means you cannot bid on construction tenders.

Can I register for multiple CIDB classes?

Yes. You can register for multiple CIDB class categories. The 5 primary classes are: CE (Civil Engineering), GB (General Building), ME (Mechanical Engineering), EP (Electrical Engineering - Infrastructure), and EB (Electrical Engineering - Building). There are also 15 specialist sub-categories (e.g., SB for Asphalt, SD for Demolition). Each class can have a different grading level based on your experience and financial capacity in that category.

How long does CIDB online registration take?

Grade 1 CIDB registration is typically activated within 48 working hours of successful submission and payment. Grading upgrades (Grade 2 and above) take approximately 21 working days. During peak periods (January-March), processing can take longer. Incomplete applications are returned and must be resubmitted, causing additional delays.
